Thanks
Team Phoenix would be nothing if it were not for the people who have encouraged and supported us along the way. Of course as time draws on more and more names will be added to this page but for now, a big thank you to those who have helped us and those who have inspired us without their knowledge.
Thank you to :
Our Parents for never letting us do anything but our best, for always encouraging us and for believing we will succeed.
Daniel Durrans for helping us with anything technical or even slightly complicated, without us ever needing to ask!
Helena Gollings for always being positive, even when our mission seemed impossible.
Jacky Smith for opening up opportunities and always being obliging, no matter what we need.
Lesley Banks at Wilkinson, for making it possible.
The Mercury Phoenix Trust for doing such great work, we just had to help.
Maureen Barclay for providing the endorsement and support of The Mercury Phoenix Trust.
Martin Iliot for offering advice to a stranger on how to do a very long sponsored walk!
Kathrin Driscoll for unending encouragement, help, confidence, friendship and generosity.
Terry Jacobs for being the most generous Queen fan we have encountered so far, now being the proud owner of four signed paintings of the band!
A very special thank you to Richard Cook, without whom the idea that set Coast to Coast, and subsequently Phoenix into motion, would have remained just an idea. He told us we could do it long before any plans were put in place, and has continued to offer advice and encouragement at every stage. Thanks Rich!
To everyone who joined in with The Christmas Shoebox Drive, everyone who has signed up to sponsor us or donated online, all our friends and family who have been there, pushing us forward and last but not least to Queen, for providing the soundtrack to our lives.
Now for those we met along route to Great Yarmouth, perhaps the most important thank you’s of all. These people made it possible, these people made every day worth while.
In Wales :
Bruce Parkin - Who saved us one day in a moment of desperation without even batting an eyelid, a kind deed which was nothing to you was everything to us. You became our inspiration for the rest of the walk, when a kind deed was done for us, we named it “A Bruce moment.” You words of wisdom have stayed with us and undoubtably will for the rest of our lives. “Coincidence is merely God’s way of remaining anonymous.”
Vimto Lady - The lovely lady who gave us a cold glass of vimto when were hopelessly lost and tired on our very first day of walking outside Rhosneigr.
Running Man - For appearing just as we had lost all hope.
Dave, Harry and Pat at Llwyn Onn Guest House - For being a genuinely lovely family, for our lovely breakfast and for sending us off walking with a smile on our faces.
The Family at Bryn Ocyn Farm - For being happy to help when we needed it most.
Phil Hollyman - For never having to be asked twice, always so willing to help out.
Eric - The nicest Scot in the world, who turned another moment of despondency into one of the most memorable days of the whole walk.
In England
Mr Sharpley - Another knight in shining armour.
Bettie Riddell - For giving us a lovely night in your B+B and making us a genuinely lovely breakfast.
Sweet Shop Man in Buxton - We all enjoyed that Pic N Mix
Jane and Irvine Goodger - For going out of your way to help.
Eileen and Clive Thomas - Very special people, who we hope to see again one day. You made those days a joy rather than a chore, moments we will never forget.
Sprite Man - I wish we knew your name, an act of true kindness, totally unforced, genuine compassion.
Iris and Albert Mitchell - For letting us stay a your house, for the generosity and the trust.
Amanda and Steve Liley - For the wonderful BBQ
Suzanne Boazman - For coming to our rescue, right at the end.
To both the Mitchell family and the Friel family - for making every single day a joy.
To everyone who made us tea (We loved you), to everyone who gave us lifts into town from our campsites, those who offered us food/drink, the German Mini Cooper gang and The Hen night girls, the group at Hunters Hall, The couple at Birch Bank Farm. To everyone who took our leaflets and asked about our walk. The five million (at least) people who gave us directions, those in pubs/restaurants who filled up our water and last but certainly not least, To every campsite who gave us our stay either for free or at a discount and to every single person who donated to the cause, together you restored our faith in people.
