Team Phoenix

It started with a simple idea - we want to do something really worthwhile. The next stage was working out exactly how we could, which is how Team Phoenix came to be. The team is made up of three siblings, Siobhan, Michael and Danielle Friel, all desperate to contribute to the fight against injustice in whatever way possible, we are then joined by equally enthusiastic student and friend Daniel Mitchell and supported by web whizz Daniel Durrans and events management student Helena Gollings.

However, Phoenix would not be possible if it were not for the perpetual support of a large network of family, friends and generous well wishers, we are so grateful for every ounce of encouragement and enthusiasm we have received so far, we really believe in the validity and worth of the cause, we only hope we can make a  difference to somebody’s life.

Danielle Friel

Hi, i’m Danielle Friel, i’m 21 and i’m in my second year at Bangor University, North Wales, doing a degree in Creative Studies. To me the foundation has become like a precious child, it is something that requires constant love and attention if it is to blossom into something that will actually change lives. Coast to Coast is going to be the biggest challenge i’ve ever embarked upon but I hope it will be the most rewarding, encouraging me to continue developing the foundation and raising more and more money for so many worthwhile causes. I believe in the cause, I believe in us.

Hi, I’m Siobhán, I’m 18 and I’m a gap year Art Student.  To begin with I thought Coast to Coast would be a good way to end a gap year, and training/organizing it would be one way of filling said year. The idea of doing something we could look back on and be truly proud of is difficult to resist. Ultimately though, if we can make a difference in our own small scale way, while giving ourselves the experience of a lifetime, more than one hopefully, then it’s definitely more than worth doing. The dedication to the cause, the huge challenge, and even the idea we may be hopelessly ambitious, is a drive in life I’m falling in love with and I hope we’ll always stay that way.  I believe we can make a difference, but the worst thing in the world would be never to have at least tried.

Michael Friel

Aloha. I’m Mike, I’m 16 and am currently taking A-levels in Theology, Maths, Physics and Philosophy. I originally heard about the walk whilst overhearing a conversation between my sisters. Not realising that my participance had been previously assumed, I was ecstatic when I was finally confronted to become a member of the team. Although always aware of the hardwork required to succeed in Coast to Coast, I am constantly amazed at how the walk has taken over my life. I believe that everybody should do all they can to help the less fortunate. This is my attempt to do my part, and make some amazing memories with my family and friends while I’m there.

Peace x

Daniel Mitchell

Hi i’m Dan, i’m in my second year at Bangor University studying Clinical and Health Psychology. When I first heard about the sponsored walk I was immediately enthusiastic about doing it, I believe it will be a great experience for all of us but most importantly I believe we can make a difference and contribute to a more than worthwhile cause.
